As I was reading this morning Eph. 3:14-21. Verses 18 & 19 jogged my memory to when I sang this song as a child and later taught it to my children. Oh that we all could grasp His immeasurable love and to be filled to all the fullness of God.
With my students, I use only the main verse (no chorus) as they partner to mirror similar actions. In introducing the song, I usually refer to God’s wisdom plus our understanding of Him, our motives and thoughts of other people (Proverbs 18:4, 20:5). When I learned this song as a child, the focus taught to me was the fountain/stream of Christ’s blood that is deeper and wider than our sins.

Only the author (Sidney E. Cox, 1887-1975) truly knows what the song refers to. But it fits the description of the stream flowing from the temple, during the millennium, which grows deeper and wider as it leaves the temple (Ps 46:4, Ezek 47:1). A stream similarly flows from the throne in the new heavens and earth (Rev 22:1). Believers can expect to see both one day.
