Help children learn and remember Bible characters in a fun and active way. One child acts out the character and the other children guess which Bible character they are portraying.
Supplies:
- Small papers
- Pencil or Pen
- A container such as a bowl, basket or bag, to place the papers in.
Preparation:
- Write the names of Bible characters on small pieces of paper. Examples might include characters such as Esther, David, Moses, Mary or Noah.
- Fold the papers and place them in the container.
How to Play:
1. Choose a Player
Select one child to come to the front. The child picks up one of the papers from the container but does not show anyone.
2. Act it out
The player acts out the character so that the rest of the group can guess which character they are portraying. The child acts out the Bible character without speaking.
- They can:
- Use actions
- Use facial expressions
- Pretend to do things from the story
- They cannot:
- Talk
- Make sounds
- Say letters or words
3. Guess the Character
The rest of the class watches the actor and then guesses which character they are portraying. Students can call out guesses or raise hands to take turns.
4. Finish the Round
When someone guesses correctly, celebrate. Briefly ask, “What do you remember about this person?”
Teaching Tips and Adaptations:
- Choose characters from your current lesson
- Start with easier characters for younger children
- Give hints if needed (e.g., “This person was a king”)
- Keep turns short so many children can participate
- If you want to make it a competition then divide the children into two or more groups. Each group will send one person forward to act out the character for them. The group scores a point for every correct answer.
